Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit

Everett Nursing and Rehabilitation Center's secure 41-bed unit is specially designed to meet the unique physical and psychological needs of older patients, generally over 55 years of age, who are experiencing complex physical, emotional and behavioral problems.

Our Treatment Philosophy
The goal of our unit is to maintain and improve each patient’s quality of life and enhance the patient's self-respect and dignity.

Our Program
The program is designed by a multidisciplinary treatment team led by a board certified Psychiatrist dedicated to the unit. The other members of the team include nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, physical, occupational and speech therapists, and activities professionals all specially trained in geriatric behavioral care. The treatment team meets prior to each patient's admission to review documentation provided by the referring facility. An interim behavior plan is developed at this time to facillitate the smoothest transition possible for the patient.

Upon admission, patients receive comprehensive evaluations aimed at diagnosing their disorder and assessing their emotional, behavioral and cognitive abilities. These evaluations lead to treatment and behavioral plans that may include individual and group therapy, psychopharmacology, physical and occupational therapies, and behavioral interventions. Staff members are certified in non-violent crisis intervention.

Family Involvement
Family members are encouraged to be an active part of the treatment program and attend regular family conferences. These conferences give the family, patient and staff the opportunity to sit down and discuss the individual's progress in treatment. While family members are welcome to visit at any time we will work together to determine how to make visits to the unit as pleasant as possible for both the patient and the visitor.

Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission, patients must need evaluation or treatment for behavioral problems (e.g. verbally agressive behavior, agitation, wandering, depression or anxiety).
